37 and Angry

Tomorrow marks 37 years that I have been on this earth. I am also 5 months pregnant. I continue to get tired daily but I am still trying. I can remember the abundant energy I had when pregnant with my son. I also remember not having to fight with insurance. But, life goes on. I do want to make a note to let you know that many mommies make having a second and third child look so easy. It isn't. 1. Don't ask me what I am having!    I just hear it so much and it becomes annoying. But everything is annoying. 2.  Don't tell me what I am having!    Again, this is annoying. Very! 3. Don't tell me I am big!    I feel it everyday, I KNOW I AM BIG! 4. Don't tell me I am too old to have a baby.    Do you ever go up to teenagers and tell them they are way too young to have a baby? 5. Please don't touch my belly!!!    Many got away with that with my first. I ain't got time with this one. So, 37. . . bring it! I am ready for wh...

Been So Long

Image
It has been so long since I have posted on here as December has now become among us. I am pretty sure that I should have been writing all about my going on's since I currently live in Chicago. ( My son knows the Cubs song and sings it.) There is the internet fascination of the mannequin challenge and the U Name It challenge which we have took part in. Also, I now am the parent of a 3 year old and have been getting ready to get him to school for next year since he just missed that September 1st deadline. Also, throughout the summer and less now we have been getting him educated and ready for preschool. I have been working now two jobs instead of one which sucks even more of my time and. . . I am currently 18 weeks pregnant! So, putting in more hours at work has been a necessity since we will be parents of TWO kids! Luckily, the boy is potty trained and pretty independent but so he doesn't regress we keep letting him know of the baby on the way. He says that the baby i...

Let the girl out

There are days where I wonder where that cute,  feminine,  spirited girl went.  The one who day dreamed and wrote out her imagination. That girl who sat out in the wind and felt the warm summer breeze in her hair.  Careless and passionate.

The Shy Mom Comes Out

It is weird but it seems as the older I get, the more shy I become. You would not think that so if you ever met me- I am a blast! I am the one that shuts down a party and will dance most the night away. Being a mom, rare are the days that I get the opportunity to perform this act. I will meet other moms in the park and out on our SAHM adventures. I have to admit that I have been a little less shy about meeting and contacting new moms. In fact, I am planning a mommy date this week to get some much needed Mediterranean food. How? Facebook, of course. I am so late on this so may be you are rolling your eyes but if you are not here is how. Get into a group that does a LOT of activities and join them on a couple of things. I am signed up with a Chicago-based group called Just Like Me: Connecting Multicultural Families. The families are amazing! They are not just husband and wife and their kids but single moms with biological and adoptive children. They are parents who are not married but ...

Pledge of Allegiance

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America And to the republic for which it stands One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all." Like most people, I get a little patriotic around the time of the Olympics. As I watched social media during the opening ceremony I noticed people comment on the fact that the United States came out in the arena very early on. This was due to the fact that they went by Portugese. I am sure when they were in Madrid that they were announced earlier as well as both in Portugese and Spanish ( and French ) the United States does not begin with an U but with an E. Estados Unidos ( Spanish) Estats Unis ( French) are the spelling and names in other languages that I recall and tell you without the accent sadly so fluent speaker please don't correct I know it is a little off. The fact that we became this way is due to our patriotism.  As I placed the pledge of allegiance up there is a good rea...

Cicadas in July

A neighbor noted that cicadas were chirping throughout the neighborhood.  "You know what that means right? "He asked me. I  was totally confused.  "It means summer is coming to an end. " That struck me as a little odd. I figured it was because it was almost night.  Then

Can Teaching be Fun?

Fun can be described in so many ways with teaching being a part of it. Kids love coloring. Kids love sharing. Kids love praise. Encourage this! Three months ago, my son went to day care for the first time. The outcome? My son is highly helpful, respectful and just at 29 months, knew what letter his first name started with as well as how to identify his name. She even replied he is "ready for kindergarten" which I was impressed. I never realized that as I just spend time with him. I am actually at the point where I don't want to raise a genius. I saw so many articles on how to raise little Einsteins and that sounds fun and easy in theory but the way my life is set up I just can't do that. I have an energetic boy who doesn't like to nap so what do you do? Here is what I do when I have a full day with my son: 1. Kumon Books and Coloring Books      I found these at a educational store and I actually find some great learning things at the dollar tree. We go over...

Don't Get The Zika!

Image
That's what we are calling it these days. . . The Zika! It is (almost) summer and I know you want to get out with those kids and soak in all that Vitamin D. Aaaaaaahhhhh! Pure heaven right? Well, don't stay out too long or your going to get "The Zika". I am sure as women of child bearing age you know all about "The Zika" so I will try as clam down as much information as possible before "the BOI" wakes up from his very early nap. The Zika has been plastered all over the news since the beginning of this year mostly but some in the later part of last year as we, being in Chicago have not paid it too much attention. Mainly, because it is a virus distributed by mosquitoes which we don't see around these parts until May or sometimes as early as April if you are 2012 Chicago. The zika virus was said to have developed in South America cause a mass hysteria of babies with microcephaly observe. . . Taken from website:  http://newsyac.com/2016/...

Terrible Twos

Terrible Twos? I hear this phrase and I wonder what they mean. I always think that it means the toddler has it out for you and wants to secretly destroy your sanity. Now that I have a 31 month old child I know EXACTLY what it means. If this is terrible, I would hate to produce another human being as this seems pretty mild to me.   My son helps clean the house. He loves to swiffer and wants to learn how to dress himself. He likes to sing and dance. He says, "please"  and "thank you" Ain't happening. Uh oh! The BOI is awake! To conclude. . .

Unpublished entries

There have been many unpublished entries I have noticed. Life has been pretty chaotic with a very energetic 31 month old. When checking out this blog if you are still keeping up please check for older entries as I have tried when I can to update the older entries that should have went out.

Sympathy for the Devil

"Sympathy for the Devil" is currently a song I am listening to as I am in one of the many offices contemplating my life. I was let go from the office that I have been brooding over for the past two years and while I should be depressed, feeling like I am cursed and in tears I am actually excited!   Music always seems to get me right when I need it. For the past year, I have been listening to K LOV Contemporary Christian music and at times I have had phone calls with some sad news. I have become a warrior of prayer and thanking God daily for all He does for me and my family. I have recently been drawn to Coldplay "Adventure of a Lifetime" may be because that is what life is- an adventure! You work a job, you love a job, you hate a job, you go on vacation, you keep pressing forward when nothing else is going right, you suffer, you succeed because this is all what shows we are alive. You take the good and the bad and see it all as good and a purpose and continue to ...

A Daunting Task. . .To Someone with Anxiety

Yes, I have anxiety but the medical world knows nothing about it. I try to display to my friends my confidence but I have yet to pull it out when it matters most. I think some of my friends knew this and headed for the hills when it came to hanging out with me or that I could be someone's wife and someone's mother and I have lots to do I guess as someone once told me, "You are a mother. You can't do everything."   So, of course trying to make my own dreams come true seems very much like a daunting task. I won't go too much into detail as I read in Napoleon Hill's book that you should never make public your plans. I guess this is more of an inspirational entry and less of a, "Hey, look at me! I am revealing myself to you for you to gawk at me." type of entry. I am preaching to the choir of you as well as myself. May be I have a new crazy that I have yet to identify with. Oh great, multiple personalities.   Take a deep breath and. . . GO FOR IT...

The Beautiful Biracial Family

You always think that you are the odd couple that has that look like you aren't supposed to be with your family. I am happy that biracial families are being displayed on TV but they look like model families. The man is an extremely handsome black man and the woman is white. I have written a post about this earlier about the multicultural families that are not displayed on TV. Now that I walk around my neighborhood, I see them and they are not models or actors.    Today, I was getting my son ready to go home from swim class and I saw one of the most beautiful Black woman. She had small senegalese twists and a perfect white smile. She was getting her nine month old son ready for his first swim class. Her son was almost the same color as my two and a half year old and he had big, soft curls in his head. We talked and she was only a year older than myself but we never mentioned the fact that we noticed that our kids didn't look exactly like us- meaning that we had an unspoken con...

Baby weaning

At almost 2 1/2 years old, my son weaned himself. It was almost ignored event as my son has went almost a month without breastmilk. He cries for it but never reaches for it as he prefers snuggles. One day, he said to me "No booby juice". I think my working long hours and school on the weekends contributed as mommy has been rarely seen these days. I didn't cry. I think I was ready more so than him. I was just tired and I had that feeling that I wanted my body back.

How to have a bilingual household

As February is heading to a close, there is so much I feel. . .hmmmm. . . I should say I feel like a battle that is coming to a close. May be the weather or the fact that I get around one hour a week to really check out my surroundings and see what is real and what is a mirage. Also, hubby is almost out of school and our son doesn't look like a vegetable. He is creative! He is social and he is active! He is bilingual which is great because there are times when I absolutely need jim to do something and when I say it on Spanish he seems to see my demand. Advice for multi cultural homes is to invest in the language you want your child to learn. A friend of mine stopped being scared and began speaking to her kids in French. She saw my non native speaking butt speak to my son and it inspired her. She wants to re learn Spanish just as I need to pick up on my French. I use the app Duolingo. It is free and when you understand the lessons it is pretty funny because those sentences are hil...

Weaning update!

The boy only nurses at night!!! He has one nursing session per night. How did I accomplish this feat? I'm rarely at home. It is a little sad because I want to be with him, playing and learning together. I adore seeing him grow into a intelligent little man! Whoops! Never finished this blog entry. Got to get to work!

Eres una vaca

Tire mi corazon afuera. Throw away my heart. Currently in school while working five days a week. This is why I have been even more MIA. Will post again soon. (I also have taken a break from Facebook.) Oh yeah, back to being a vegetarian
