Oh Baby!

Image
While the young one is asleep and I just got home I wanted to share my first mommy and me class. The hospital that I delivered Jonathan in has a mommy and me class as just a way for new mommies to get out and vent on all newborn life has to offer. This was my first week and I hear that this week was a doosy because there were 20 pairs of mama's and babies. There were so many ladies to chat with about breastfeeding, newborn sleeping patterns and recommendations on products it was AMAZING!! Plus, this was my first time going out with the baby without hubby. This picture I pulled up online but man were those babies ADORABLE! Someone dressed up their kid as Elvis as another mom dressed herself and her daughter up as butterflies. May add my son's last minute on sale costume. (cost me $8 from the original cost of $16. Yeahh!) I am planning on going next week so I can hear about the mommies developments as one had a ten week old son who looked smaller than Jonathan because he was ...

Quick Update

Image
Before this year is up I must touch on two things that are really touching to me: breastfeeding and child adoption. I think adoption stories are so touching because there is no pregnancy and some how these people just know that this little life belongs in their life. I don't know why many do not talk about adoption. I think it is one of the most beautiful things on earth. Stay tuned. . . Oh yeah the baby is doing well and picking up weight and length. Who you looking at?

The Sacrificial Lamb

Image
If you call me around noon today you will hear me singing songs and praises of the "booby juice" to my two week old son. Why? Because he is impatient and will scream and cry as soon as he feels a bit of hunger. The dancing around his nursery and singing, "Booby juice party" seems to stop him from crying and wonder, "What is wrong with this person?"    So, here I am apart from the social world catering to my boy. I am so tired in the evening. The baby seems to want to constantly cry. He has the perfect latch then pulls away causing my poor nipples a bit of pain. My husband next to me sleeps while I have to get up to breastfeed because I don't want the nipple confusion. This is all part of the sacrifice.  The Sacrificial Lamb-Josefa de Ayala (1670-1684) While in the hospital, my son's doctor said it- "Yup, you ready to be the sacrificial lamb?" I understood what he meant but I didn't want to. But yes that picture without the halo ...

Breastfeeding and Breast Cancer Awareness

Image
This month says it all. . .October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.    If you personally know me you know my story with Breast Cancer. I guess you would call me a secondary victmn as I lost my mother from Metastasis from Breast Cancer back in December 2011. Here are some things that you may not know about my mother and her fight with breast cancer: 1- It was not hereditary! My grandmother is in her early eighties and still have both her breasts in tact. My great grandmother died from heart disease when I was five years old. Will I still get regular check-ups- you bet! 2- My mother had children! Well, of course if she is my mother. This supposedly protects you from breast cancer 3- My mother did not smoke. Mommy and I at my Chiropractic graduation I think that is about it. How did she get breast cancer- she was under a lot of stress! This is where I try to educate and talk to people about breast cancer. She was someone who was at least risk for breast...

One Week In!

Image
So, Jonathan is one week old today! Motherhood has been such a blessing. Those oxytocin hormones work I tell ya! I selected this picture because the lady is kissing the baby's face. That is basically what I do to this little man. I think I am spoiling him but then at this point I don't care. We are learning each other since he never really got to know me outside of my womb except when I was hungry or when I had to pee. LOL!!! Also this is a remarkable time for Vince as he is taking to bonding and learning him so well. . . Father and Son I can't believe how he kisses his face and is truly cautious on doing anything wrong. He kisses the baby then kisses me. Our bond is still there and may be stronger since God brought this little one into our lives. He even latches on well since birth but I did insist that they place the baby on my chest but it took about a minute because I birthed on my hands and knees and they had to clean up the bed so I could lie on my back ...

My Rapid Birth Story

Image
* I have no photos due to time constraints*    Something didn't feel right. About 4AM on a clear, dark October 9th morning I felt a pull or something give way and I felt like I urinated just a little in my pad. I got up to use the bathroom and thought, "Man, I peed on myself. Wait. . .oh no." As soon as I sat down on the toilet I had a feeling that I used to get a long time ago. . .mild cramping to symbolize that I was about to have my menstrual cycle. This time, it wasn't a menstrual cycle cramp. Vince woke up and asked me if I was okay. I told him that I think my water just broke but I wasn't sure. As soon as I told him that another contraction came and it was not as intense as the first but it came within a five minute period. I was in denial as I told him let's wait. He didn't want to wait. I prepared myself for a shower in order to ease my muscles as I started the water, another contraction hit. In between my deep breaths I told him to call Maura- ...

Any Day Now- The prep days

Image
Gifts given in the hospital With resting comes preparation. I have been scolded to sleep but it is difficult with a husband that is working daily to get last minute money coming in and your whole life as well as the baby's life stuffed into two closets. This should be a time for rest and crocheting which sets my mind at ease but there is still much to be done and due to sleeping and cleaning they still don't seem done. Hospital Bag- Just this morning we got all we need for our journey in the hospital and with that I mean Vince and I. The baby's clothes are not washed and prepped for the hospital. Why? Because we have no dresser to put the clothes in. What to do? Early Monday morning will have to be the time to get all the clothes cleaned and push ours to the side just so we have time to get all his little clothes cleaned. A dresser would have to be purchased by either me or Vince and assembled as soon as possible or else the crib will have to be the storage place f...

Bed Rest? What is that?

Image
For the first three days being home I was treated like a princess. My adoring husband was washing the dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the bathtub, working. He was doing EVERYTHING and even rubbing my feet. Something happened inside me between Friday and Monday- I went into being 37 weeks pregnant. It is still any day now but 37 weeks is considered full term. That picture was taken the night I got home from the hospital in my baby's nursery. Since I have been home, I have been sleeping in the glider and ottoman almost every night. I sleep when I can and eat when I have the urge which has been slimming down just a little. As the week now draws to an end once again I must admit I have been a lot more riskier with what I do like walking to some frozen yogurt, cleaning when I have the energy and cooking meals. When I get the energy, I go for the gusto! When I am tired just leave me be and let me sleep.Yesterday, I cleaned the kitchen including scrubbing those floors and baseb...
