A Suitable Substitute

Image
I needed a coffee substitute! I could totally give up coffee in my first pregnancy but this one as we already know is remarkably diverse from the last. I actually gave up coffee twice and as I was giving it up I was looking for "Dandy Blend" which is a coffee substitute made with roasted dandelion root. Picture provided by  Dandy Blend Website Dandelion root is great for digestion which when you are in your first trimester and having horrible constipation is the best.  Not going into the full research for the matter but how I knew this was tapping into my Naturopathic student mind without all the stress of thinking of papers and pop quizzes that I knew about but forgot. ( That was a rough year but I would do it again!) After a while, I then began to think about Pero, which is a coffee subsitute with rye, chicory and barley. 100% caffeine free. Dark Days of January

Image
As we are mid way of the dark days of January I can't help but wonder what is going on with the madness. As of January 31st I am to be without a job. . . not this again! It is truly making me wonder if being a chiropractor was what I should be doing in the first place. There just seems to be no end with the hiring and layoffs and being replaced with a younger, male chiropractor. As I am currently 6 months pregnant there is no way that I will be able to find another job unless I get a side gig and do some assistant jobs on the side to be able to subsdize my income. . .just until I get cleared by the doctor and midwives that I can go back to work after having my second little nugget of love. I don't blame this stroke of bad luck on this baby but I feel guilty that this baby is going to be born in this financial storm that is brewing. I know we will be alright as hubby is taking on more jobs in order to make more money for baby and what is going on with my son. Last year was ha...

But this time it is different

I sat down on the exam table with the insurance company putting me on hold. Frustrated with  billing and insurance, I waited to meet the midwife. She asked me about depression and I admitted that I was truly annoyed with being in the dark on the financial cost of pregnancy.  She asked me about back pain or abdominal pain but I just had the usual round ligament pain. I was dehydrated and needed to drink more water and to get two more tests done including the ultrasound. I missed it but only out of financial spite. Now, I wonder if I am causing harm to this baby. I never meant to be so careless this time around. I was so diligent and great with my first pregnancy and my son is a rock star! He is so intelligent and kind it is mind blowing. Now,  I still don't know the sex of  this  baby but I don't want to know.
