Being Wanted and Being Loved

Image
As I discuss breastfeeding and childbirth there is something else dear to my heart may be because I know people who are and they are better for it. Adoption I am actually not one of those people who cry at birth stories but I do cry from adoption stories. They are so much more touching to me and I can't really explain why. May be it is because I see so many babies that should be in better homes. . .homes where the mommy and daddy actually wanted kids and want to spoil those children with love, something that many of us are beginning to forget is that kids need time and love.  I can't name the friends but I have friends that are currently suffering with infertility issues and they are married and I honestly think they would make some ROCKIN parents! It hurts me to hear this and with American adoptions are so iffy. You put money into getting a child of your own to love and care for and nurture only for the birth parents to say, "You know, I don't have a lot ...

Two Months and Some Change

Image
As of today, my son is 10 weeks and one day. I am shocked at how the time flies. I heard a saying that a day takes forever but time flies in an instant. I am beginning to see the correlation. The holidays are coming in and I have lacked the ability to go ahead and get some Christmas cards available. I have also lacked on memory that my own birthday is up and coming this weekend. Having a kid really does give the holiday spirit. Baby stats: Weight (at 2 months): 12lbs and 6oz Length (at 2 months): 24 1/3" 95th percentile Jonathan smiles at anyone! He smiles the most at mommy. He loves "dancing" with mommy and tries to talk to her with his coo's. He also loves story time- one of his favorite stories is Corduroy en espanol. Jonathan also loves his swing so he can stare at the little monkeys. Jonathan does not like long car rides, cold air and being away from mommy or daddy too long. (may be a problem when mommy goes back to work.) He is now growing ...

The Moment of Truth- SAHM or Working Mom

Image
How does my little one make this decision difficult? 1- He sleeps at night 2- He smiles at me in the morning 3- Nothing makes me happier than curling up next to him during nap time 4- I get a chance to cook! (don't really cook when I get home at 5:30PM) 5- I love the mommy groups I attend I don't want to miss his firsts. I don't want to miss his first word, his first steps and I don't want him to get it confused. . . I am mommy!!! Also that first day I leave him is going to be the hardest of all. He has been with me everyday since he was born. When I go to the store or anywhere he comes with me! My husband gave me the option to go back to work in April which I would LOVE but I have to go back. Why I have to go back to work? 1- I need a new car and putting down for a house 2- Must keep paying those school loans 3- Saving up for our trip to Canada in September Hmm. . . thought this list would be longer. It is difficult because I have yet to look for nan...

La Landia de Leche - Galletas and Spilled Milk

Image
Yes, I made the lactation cookies and they were DELICIOUS!!! Problem is I kept eating them. I must have gobbled six cookies on Wednesday. Last night my breasts kept getting swollen and hard which is not the best thing when you are travelling across state. We stopped at the Oasis and I ripped my poor baby from his car seat which he hates being put in anyway and I nursed for about 20 minutes. Lucky for me my husband was quite the patient man and let me nurse in the back seat with the tinted windows. LOL! Well, I can say my little boob guy was crying for about 20 miles so that makes patience with me nursing all the more better. I did spend most of my Thanksgiving sitting in another room from everyone nursing my sweet little baby. Pic from food.com-I used their recipe so my cookies did come out looking like this. This morning I was STILL very swollen so I woke up Jonathan since it was time for him to "eat" anyway. He nursed for 30 minutes but then he was so tired. I guess ye...

Growth Spurts and More Mommy Stuff

Image
With the holidays soon approaching comes new chaos with a newborn. . . the relatives! I knew this would be tricky with people wanting to see the little guy and deciding if I should send off Announcements along with the expensive items that we still need like a jogging stroller and protective winter wear for Jonathan while mommy darts off into the cold tundra of Chicago. I have begun to take more of an interest in Pinterest again. (interest in Pinterest? Ha, I did not plan that one out!) I want to go ahead and begin making laundry detergent and get produce from a farmer instead of going to the grocery store. Trust, I am very much into soups right about now. Booby Juice Goodness I actually am currently working on how to make my breastmilk healthy and more efficient. As I currently went to my 6 week follow up I am only two pounds heavier than I was before I was "knocked up". (*giggle*) So, it is time to disregard the holidays and work on my intended goal which was to  have ...

Can I get a MOO!?

Image
Here it is. . .me and my pursuit to talk about something all too familiar for me. BREASTFEEDING! This entry I decided to fill it with comics all poking fun at the natural womanly art of breastfeeding.    When Jonathan was first born he latched on perfectly. Everything was perfect in our relationship except one person. . . ME! You can not sit up breastfeeding. Baby will cough. Work on the latch. Of course my nipples hurt in the beginning trying to extract the liquid gold to my newborn son.  I wanted to have lots of milk for him I really did so I could pump and have lots stored in case I have to leave town for conferences, date nights, last minute leavings and of course for when I go back to work. I vowed to eat healthy and drink only water- being better with my diet than I was with pregnancy. Well, thus far that has not fared as I have been a naughty gal! Anything I can get my hands on I am eating! This is for one of two reasons. . . 1. I get crazy h...

A Month since the Fast Excitement

Image
Happy One Month Bubie! Info on Jonny baby:   At the Pediatrician's office- he is currently 9 lbs 10 oz and 23 inches long which puts him at a 95th percentile. So, we have a long and healthy baby boy. Since I have been pregnant I prayed with all my heart to my Heavenly Father to help me to deliver a healthy, happy baby boy. He has not really done too much smiling yet only in his sleep but I have a feeling once he starts smiling and laughing he may not be able to stop since at home we are always smiling and laughing! While he gets his diaper changed he listens to music with mommy and I have to get up and grab him and dance around his nursery with him! This is before he is nursed which has been sooooooo much better since the beginning. (I guess I skipped the part where I was supposed to talk more about nursing him.)  Jonathan at one day old Most women as I am told are in awe from the moment their child is out of their womb. I didn't know what to feel hones...

Oh Baby!

Image
While the young one is asleep and I just got home I wanted to share my first mommy and me class. The hospital that I delivered Jonathan in has a mommy and me class as just a way for new mommies to get out and vent on all newborn life has to offer. This was my first week and I hear that this week was a doosy because there were 20 pairs of mama's and babies. There were so many ladies to chat with about breastfeeding, newborn sleeping patterns and recommendations on products it was AMAZING!! Plus, this was my first time going out with the baby without hubby. This picture I pulled up online but man were those babies ADORABLE! Someone dressed up their kid as Elvis as another mom dressed herself and her daughter up as butterflies. May add my son's last minute on sale costume. (cost me $8 from the original cost of $16. Yeahh!) I am planning on going next week so I can hear about the mommies developments as one had a ten week old son who looked smaller than Jonathan because he was ...

Quick Update

Image
Before this year is up I must touch on two things that are really touching to me: breastfeeding and child adoption. I think adoption stories are so touching because there is no pregnancy and some how these people just know that this little life belongs in their life. I don't know why many do not talk about adoption. I think it is one of the most beautiful things on earth. Stay tuned. . . Oh yeah the baby is doing well and picking up weight and length. Who you looking at?

The Sacrificial Lamb

Image
If you call me around noon today you will hear me singing songs and praises of the "booby juice" to my two week old son. Why? Because he is impatient and will scream and cry as soon as he feels a bit of hunger. The dancing around his nursery and singing, "Booby juice party" seems to stop him from crying and wonder, "What is wrong with this person?"    So, here I am apart from the social world catering to my boy. I am so tired in the evening. The baby seems to want to constantly cry. He has the perfect latch then pulls away causing my poor nipples a bit of pain. My husband next to me sleeps while I have to get up to breastfeed because I don't want the nipple confusion. This is all part of the sacrifice.  The Sacrificial Lamb-Josefa de Ayala (1670-1684) While in the hospital, my son's doctor said it- "Yup, you ready to be the sacrificial lamb?" I understood what he meant but I didn't want to. But yes that picture without the halo ...

Breastfeeding and Breast Cancer Awareness

Image
This month says it all. . .October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.    If you personally know me you know my story with Breast Cancer. I guess you would call me a secondary victmn as I lost my mother from Metastasis from Breast Cancer back in December 2011. Here are some things that you may not know about my mother and her fight with breast cancer: 1- It was not hereditary! My grandmother is in her early eighties and still have both her breasts in tact. My great grandmother died from heart disease when I was five years old. Will I still get regular check-ups- you bet! 2- My mother had children! Well, of course if she is my mother. This supposedly protects you from breast cancer 3- My mother did not smoke. Mommy and I at my Chiropractic graduation I think that is about it. How did she get breast cancer- she was under a lot of stress! This is where I try to educate and talk to people about breast cancer. She was someone who was at least risk for breast...
