Emancipation

Image
I AM FREE!!! Throughout all this I have to thank God for the friends and family that He placed in my life in this difficult moment. The situation happened just as fast as it was of me getting into the hospital. Friday morning, the doctor came to my room as usual but he was not about to check my cervix or tell me about how my baby's heart was doing. Doctor: So, you will be released today. Me: What!? Are you serious? Doctor: The baby's heart rate has been stable for three days. He is active and there are women who run around outside a hospital dilated 5 cm with a bulging bag for weeks. We just require that you come in two days out of the week and schedule a day to come in and see me during the week. I nodded my head in silence and in shock. Every week I was told that I was staying there until my baby is born. Now, all of a sudden I was "let loose" on the world. Me, a 5cm dilated, 100% effaced, bulging bag pregnant woman will be walking around Chicago somewhe...

Cabin Fever Madness

Image
I am not sure anymore if I want to get out to be with my baby or just to get out of this hospital. Other than that, progress is going well somewhat. Being in here though I am still a little emotional but there have been times where I am still my happy go lucky self. How far along?  36 Weeks Total weight gain?  Unsure- last weigh in was 16 pounds total at wk 33 Maternity clothes?  Still hospital gowns although I might wear an outfit this week Sleep?    Not much some days. Other days I can. More so now though. Best moment this week? I am off the fetal monitor for all day and I skyped in another shower. Miss Anything? This is the time of year where I begin doing more cooking and baking. Movement?  Oh yeah!! Food cravings?  My own cooking Anything make you queasy or sick?  No, not really. Gender? A sweet little maverick! ( Oh boy oh boy!) Symptoms?  Some constipation that has cleared up since I can w...

Two Weeks In

Image
Cards, gifts, and goodies It has been two and a half weeks since I been a "prisoner" at this hospital. For what it is worth I am actually not as bad off as you would think. The nurses here are completely amazing! I have had a tour of the birthing center here which I discovered that this birthing unit is PRO BREASTFEEDING!!! Which makes me feel so much better about birthing here. I went to Starbucks, took a stroll all at the comfort of the wheelchair that the nurse rolled me around in. They also snuck me some goodies from the cafe and not the stuff they give the patients. Much better in taste! I have been sleeping more this week though but I am assuming that my body is storing up all that energy to birth my little one. I have met mostly all the staff and they are good people- we have late night chats, we cry together, have breakthroughs and learn something new. I even found out you can spend $180 on a cut and color at a pretty decent salon. Yikes! "Hello Lil ...

Baby Hopes

Image
If you did not get the announcement from one the last entry. Yes, I am having a beautiful little boy! I never wanted to know the sex of this baby because secretly I had the feeling that he was a he. I always wanted a little boy to rough house with and to kiss his little owee's and boo boos. A little boy that played sports but also had a nerdy side and wanted a science kit to play with in his room. When he becomes a teenager to tell him all about girls and how confusing we are. Vince is excited as he wants to take him to his jobs during the summer. May be he can save his money and take that special girl to prom and get a limo with his buddies. He would be a bit of a flirt like his mama and be hard working like his daddy. I am excited to see what kind of person he will be and if he will expand our expectations. I know when he does decide to show up in this world when our eyes meet for the first time I will be in love all over again. I guess my life is to be blessed to be happily i...

What do you do on bed rest?

Image
As of today, I have been on bed rest for well over a week and going slowly into the second week. Honestly, younger people would pass out from all the boredom but I welcome it. I am welcoming the silence and peace as baby and I have "proved" ourselves so to speak that we are healthy and just waiting out the storm for him to make his appearance in the world. So, what do I do throughout the day that still keeps me a little chipper. I am on facebook so much more. I can't be in the outside world so I observe through all the friends I have there. Part of me is a little sad because I am missing out on some interesting things in life right about now. At this moment, there is a wedding going on that I will be unable to attend. I love going to weddings and when I know the couple is right for each other I am even more excited. I read. Almost all my pregnancy books are read so my lovely doula stopped by on Thursday with some books of hers to borrow and give back to her. I ha...

Biding Time

Image
I was admitted to the hospital on September 5th, 2013. On Monday, September 9th I was told that I was not leaving the hospital until I give birth to this baby. I got on bed rest at 33 weeks and currently 34 weeks pregnant. To still try to keep some normalcy, I am still reporting my pregnancy updates and keeping up with my blog probably with more intensity since I am well . . .on bed rest. Profile shot How far along?  34 Weeks Total weight gain?  Unsure- last weigh in was 16 pounds total at wk 33 Maternity clothes?  No. Hospital gowns. Not flattering at all. Sleep?    Not much some days. Baby kicks because of the contractions but during the day I sleep. Best moment this week?  UH, not sure. Every day has been the same. I skyped in my shower. Miss Anything?  SUNLIGHT! And going for walks to the forever yogurt, Red Mango spot Movement?  Yes and no. When being evaluated baby doesn't want to move and I have to ...

An Uneventful Day

Over memorial day weekend, I made it a point to see one of my grandmothers who fell into the hospital with headaches. She lives in Cedar Rapids, IA and since both my biological grandparents are healthy people I went to see her. We had a great time with family and came back to see my best friend which I can't bring out the news yet but she is doing very well for herself. So, I figured that Wednesday was going to be an uneventful day. I looked forward to the routine of work and coming home except that I was too have my first pregnant chiropractic appointment so I was looking forward to it. That morning, I did my very early am run to the potty and there on my toilet paper was a little spotting. I was a bit concerned but nonetheless, I went back to bed and slept for  another two or three hours. Went back to the bathroom and the same thing. This time I told Vince. "May be you should call the midwives." He said. I agreed and called them after he left for work. I went to work ...

How Doula Do? Part 2

Image
This week is the week of searching for a doula. I thought that if I hugged the woman that she was the one. I never knew it would be slightly difficult. 1. I went on doulamatch.net to look for a selection of doulas. This website was highly helpful because it gave you the radius of where they lived, what their fees are, their certification, a picture, what hospitals they have been, additional services, etc. This was helpful since I did not have to ask too many questions. 2. I have been lurking on that website for about two to four weeks. A little skeptical about the website. 3. FINALLY!! Two weeks ago I spotted one I couldn't pass up and sent her a message through doulamatch.net. Then, I found another. I set up appointments once my husband returned into town. Tuesday- met with the doula #1. She has been in the business for two years. She has had several births assisted at our birthing center and enjoys the midwives. She seemed nervous but highly knowledgeable. She also ...
